Soldier is posed seated with one arm resting on a table. The subject wears a dark forage cap and a dark high-collard shell jacket with a row of piping on each side of the buttons down the front. This style jacket is known to have only been worn by members of the 15th Pennsylvania Cavalry. The trooper wears the jacket open to reveal a dark military vest underneath. He also wears light trousers.
Image is very sharp and clear. There is one dark spot off to the right of the subject otherwise the condition is excellent.
The decoration on the brass mat and frame is of a floral pattern.
The union case that houses the image is in wonderful condition. There are no chips or cracks and its decoration is first rate. At center are crossed cannons over a pyramid of ammunition with an oak branch, spear and Liberty cap vertically at center flanked by lance and pennants. Around the edges is a raised border with laurel leaves with patriotic shields and waving US flags. [ad]
