Very clean clear tintype of a seated Union officer wearing a dark frock coat and light trousers along with his sword belt and sash. Belt plate is the Pattern 1851 NCO style with the spread-winged eagle and applied silver wreath. The officer’s hair is somewhat mussed up as if he has just removed his hat and his cheeks are lightly tinted.
Next to him stands his son who is posed with one arm resting on his father’s shoulder. The boy looks to be about 10 or 11 years old and has facial features that clearly match his fathers. He wears a medium colored coat buttoned up against the cold and matching trousers. By his side, and just visible in his right hand is a kepi that could belong to him or his father.
As stated the image has great clarity but the contrast is a bit on the dark side.
The photo comes in the usual scroll decorated mat and frame in a complete leather case with a repaired hinge held by cloth tape that matches the exterior leather. [ad]
