Full standing view of a young 2nd Lieutenant posed with his Model 1850 foot officer’s sword in front of him
The clean-shaven subject wears a dark forage cap with a gilt eagle on the front, a single-breasted frock coat with gilt buttons and gilt edged shoulder straps with light trousers. At his waist is his sword belt with rectangular gilt plate and shoulder support strap. His empty sword scabbard is also visible.
Image has good clarity and passable contrast. Emulsion has some scattered crackling throughout.
Photo is housed in a thermoplastic oval frame with a raised scroll decoration with gold gilt medallions at top bottom and sides with a double rope inner border also touched with gilt paint.
Image is held in the frame by two horizontal iron pins on the reverse. The top pin is missing. Reverse also has an “O” ring for hanging on the wall. [ad]
