Image is of a young soldier wearing his dark forage cap at a jaunty angle. His dark frock coat is open to show a lighter colored vest underneath which is also open to display a tie with crosshatched decoration. The forage cap has an infantry hunting horn at center of the crown with a Company letter at center. Below the horn are “PV” and a three digit number. All insignia is touched with gilt paint. Unfortunately the gilt paint obscures the regimental number.
Photograph comes with a nice patriotic mat decorated with US flags, cannons and a riband that reads “THE UNION NOW AND FOREVER.” Frame is the usual scroll decoration.
The Union case that holds the image has a beautiful raised decoration with a recessed scroll edged medallion at center with a raised bust of a Roman woman. Case is in excellent condition with no cracks or chips. Interior pillow is faded red with a lyre shaped decoration of scrolls. [ad]
