This excavated artifact from the Civil War cavalry battlefield at Trevilian Station in Virginia is a Sharps carbine barrel with only the receiver frame still attached. No breech block, operating lever, hammer or other components.  Barrel has a heavy layer of rust pitting on the surface and is coated with old varnish. Stock is completely gone. The cavalry relic was found on the field at Trevilian Station in Virginia sometime after the war.
