The body of this shell is in very rough condition. It appears as though the shell was once in a very wet area and freezing and thawing as well as heavy rust took its toll on the body. The shape is readily recognizable as a Schenkl shell but there is much material loss as well as chipping and cracking throughout the body. The nose is mostly intact and contains a still somewhat encrusted Schenkl combination fuse. Visible of the face of the fuse is “10 SEC.” The sabot is long gone.
This shell was meant for use in the 3-inch Ordnance rifle.
