This is the brass wick keeper and feed knob from a kerosene lantern. The knob still operates freely. You can still see the threads on the base where it screwed into the base. The brass is discolored from ground action.

With the item is an old typed label that reads “KEROSENE LANTERN WICK HOLDER-UNION ARMY WINTER CAMPSITE-STAFFORD COUNTY, VIRGINIA SEPT. 1975.”
