This artifact is a very good, complete excavated example of a two-piece brass button as worn on the uniforms of Georgia militia soldiers. This Confederate local, coat-size button is of two-piece construction with a border. Retains just very slight traces of the original gold gilt on the face. Entire button has been coated with a sealant material. The circular, 24mm, 2-piece brass device exhibits the State’s original coat of arms that shows an arch supported by three pillars. An officer stands with his right hand holding a slanting drawn sword displayed on a plain field. Button is in very good condition and is classified as a GA218A1 in Warren Tice’s reference volume. Back side blank and has a depressed channel with a lose shank. This Georgia State seal button is a great addition to any Civil War button display or to a Georgia-focused collection.
