Item Code: R20172

This is one of the more commonly encountered pre-war militia belt plates. At center is a spread-winged eagle with a US shield on his chest holding arrows in one claw and an olive branch in the other. The eagle is surmounted by seven five-pointed stars with three on each side and a laurel wreath across the bottom. Reverse is devoid of any hooks.

The plate has darkened from age and ground action. There looks to be a repaired crease on the left side. This was well done and is barely perceptible. The upper right corner has a very small crack that is nothing to be concerned about but should be mentioned.

The place of recovery is not given however an old tape label machine was used to mark the outside of the riker box the plate come in. These tape labels read “OLD –MILITIA-BELT-PLATE,” “1840-VINTAGE,” “LOST-BY –CONF-CAV.” There is also a tape label on the side of the box with the name of the digger who found it.
