The body of this shell is clean and still exhibits some of the original arsenal paint, especially on the base which was originally covered by a papier-mâché sabot. There is light to moderate pitting over the entire shell that gets a little heavier toward the nose. The fuse hole still contains the remains of a fuse but it is difficult to tell which fuse it was Army or Navy. One side of the shell has a deactivation hole.
These shells were meant for use in the 30 pounder Parrott rifle and were mostly used by the Union Navy. This example was recovered at Fort Morris in Sunbury, Georgia.
