This pattern 1839 oval US cartridge box plate has a mixed patina on the face. Most of the surface has a green sandy appearance due to ground action while some smaller areas are just dark. The face and edges are free of dings and dents.
The reverse has all of the lead fill and both of the iron hooks are rusted but present.
Written on the back in ink is “STONEMAN’S SWITCH CAMP / 12 N.H.V. CAMP 1862-1863 / DEC. 1967 STAFFORD COUNTY, VA.”
