This is the skin only of a Pattern 1826 eagle breast plate. The face has a dark discoloration due to ground action. This discoloration makes the details of the eagle a little more difficult to see than usual.
The reverse has none of the lead fill or hooks. There are no cracks in the skin just a small amount of edge loss.
Plate was recovered in the winter camp of 1862-1863 that was occupied by the 2nd Division of the 2nd Corps at Falmouth, Virginia which is just across the Rappahannock River from Fredericksburg. Location of recovery is written in ink on the back of the skin.
