This holster was recovered from City Point, Virginia, after the explosion on August 9, 1864, that was a result of Confederate sabotage. Confederate Secret Service agent John Maxwell had smuggled a bomb with a timed fuse aboard an ammunition barge. It caused a tremendous explosion that shook the city and caused much damage.

Leather has some light crazing and flaking. Side seam stitching has mostly separated. Belt loop has been torn off, but the base is still attached with iron rivets, and finial is present. Holster measures approx. 11” long.   [sm]
