US CAVALRY BIT WITH BOSSES

$175.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 883-154

Iron bit was recovered from City Point, Virginia, after the explosion on August 9, 1864, that was a result of Confederate sabotage. Confederate Secret Service agent John Maxwell has smuggled a bomb with a timed fuse aboard an ammunition barge. It caused a tremendous explosion that shook the city and caused much damage.

Item is in very good condition. Iron surfaces have a semi-bright patina. The bit retains both of the “O” rings and one of the curb chain hooks with chain attached. “US” brass bosses are present on both sides.   [sm]
