Belt plate was recovered from City Point, Virginia, after the explosion on August 9, 1864, that was a result of Confederate sabotage. Confederate Secret Service agent John Maxwell has smuggled a bomb with a timed fuse aboard an ammunition barge. It caused a tremendous explosion that shook the city and caused much damage.

Plate has a semi-bright patina and very good detail. Reverse has lead fill. Both arrowhead hooks and tongue are present. Remains of leather belt are attached to hooks. Edge of plate has some very slight dings.
