Likely detonated when the fort was decommissioned and ammo was being destroyed. Broken into 4 pieces which have been put back together. Fourth piece remains separate to show case shot. Fits perfectly. Missing fuse and side loader plug. Light varnish. Fort Weed, located in Alexandria, VA and  one of the ring of Union fortifications surrounding Washington, DC, never saw combat.   [mk]
