This is the three inch shell for the Parrott rifled cannon. Shell is in very good relic condition with the entire iron sabot present at the base. Top of shell is open and one can view the cavity. Moderate pitting and some chips are present at the top and base. Projectile has been cleaned and varnished.
This shell was fired on October 7, 1862 by Powell’s Battery of the 1st Missouri Light Artillery. They fired on the enemy near Ruckersville. Shell was recovered by Dr. Robert McDaniel near Corinth, Mississippi. He researched to discover the documentation of the shell. A copy of the report from the official records is included.
This is a very unique opportunity to actually know who fired a recovered shell. [sm]
