This Civil War artifact is an original, brass-stamped, crossed cannon insignia of Union artillery excavated from the battlefield at Antietam. MD. The relic is 3” long overall and is in strong, intact dug condition. Has just few slight bends at the cross point. Insignia has acquired a chocolate brown patina and has only one original loop remaining on the backside. Worn on the crown of a Federal artilleryman’s forage cap, this relic accoutrement from Antietam is a fine addition to any collection of Civil War excavated items. [ra]
