This excavated Pattern 1839 oval US cartridge box plate has a smooth brown patina. The brass face has central “US” with a few dings. This plate looks to have been struck by something along the top edge. The plate’s reverse has 100% of the lead fill. The two iron loops remain. This relic was recovered at Fairfax Station, VA in 1965. An original “struck” Civil War enlistedman’s cartridge box plate. [jet]
