Oval Pattern 1839 US cartridge box plate complete with both hooks.
Face has a wonderful rich, smooth, dark patina with no oxidation and only minor faint surface scratches. There are no dings or dents to the edge.
Lead on the reverse is 98% with a little wear to the lead surface along one edge. Written lightly near the top edge is “LEISCH.” Stamped into the lead at center is a worn but readable “E. GAYLORD.”
Plate was recovered in central Virginia. [ad]
