Found at an unknown location, this excavated, die-struck, rolled, oval cartridge box plate specimen is in good relic condition. Measures 3 3/8” x 2¼”. Face of specimen has the large raised letters “US” and the double border. Face exhibits a heavily pitted surface with moderate light oxidation overall. Back side still retains both iron loops that are tight. The lead filled back exhibits moderate lead erosion with pockmarks but no edge erosion. This excavated, brass U.S. oval cartridge box plate is a fine artifact of battle that would be worthy addition to Civil War plate collection.
