Back in the late 1990’s resin miniatures of some of the Gettysburg battlefield monuments were offered for sale here at The Horse Soldier and were very popular. The company producing these monuments was small and eventually stopped production. Fortunately they have brought us the unsold portion of their inventory so we can once again offer these fine replicas to the public.
Though made of resin the monuments are painted and textured to match carved stone.
The particular miniature monument offered here is for the 15th New York Independent Battery. The item stands approx. 5.50 inches high x 4.50 inches across the base. Depicted on the face of the monument is an artilleryman holding a rammer and sponge leaning against the wheel of a cannon. A gunner’s haversack lies on the ground at his feet. In front of the cannon wheel is a water bucket and below the bucket is “15TH N.Y. BATTERY.” The upper right hand corner of the monument has the New York State seal done in bronze colored paint to match the bronze plaque on the monument.
The reverse, unlike the original monument, is devoid of any text. Due to the scale of the miniature any text on the reverse would be unreadable.
The original monument to the 15th New York Battery stands on the Wheatfield Road across from the Peach Orchard. The battery was assigned to the Artillery Reserve at Gettysburg. It carried 99 men into the battle and lost 3 men killed and 13 wounded.
