Back in the late 1990’s resin miniatures of some of the Gettysburg battlefield monuments were offered for sale here at The Horse Soldier and were very popular. The company producing these monuments was small and eventually stopped production. Fortunately they have brought us the unsold portion of their inventory so we can once again offer these fine replicas to the public.
Though made of resin the monuments are painted and textured to match carved stone.
The particular miniature monument offered here is for the 1st Massachusetts Cavalry. The item stands approx. 6.00 inches high x 3.00 inches across the base. Depicted on the face of the monument is a very detailed bridled horse head with crossed sabers below it. At center of the crossed sabers is a sunburst with a horse shoe. Beneath the above is a smoothed section with lettering that reads “FIRST MASS CAVALRY / 3d BRIGADE / 2ND CAVALRY DIVISION / ON DETACHED SERVICE.”
The original monument to the 1st Massachusetts Cavalry stands on the west side of Sedgwick Ave on Cemetery Ridge. It carried 292 at the time of the battle.
