Maker mark: “Scovill Mfg. Co. / Pat. S. 28-1877”, stamped on base. Rectangular wooden box measuring 4.125” x 3.125” x 4.5”, hinged with tack clasp. Dark gutta percha cover is decorated with oval inscribed military motifs: anchor, crossed cannons, cannon ball pyramids, & liberty cap atop foliate liberty pole. Box sides exhibit light scuffing; decorated cover is near pristine. Clean interior contains circular paper collar holder with one white paper collar brace. Small rectangular black adhesive stamp [original] attached directly below front clasp, bottom edge. In all, a unique piece, and, highly attractive with its decorative cover.
