This greatcoat (soldier’s overcoat) is a full length blue coat with cape in overall very nice condition.
The coat retains its five eagle buttons on the front. The cape still has its six cuff-sized eagle buttons. Typical of the style there is a stand-up collar, finished button holes, tan blanket wool body lining, white cotton sleeve lining, and waist adjuster belt (with two eagle buttons) on back. A maker’s mark is lightly stenciled in the left sleeve.
There are a few places where split seams in the lining (arm pits & shoulders) have been restitched. There are also a few scattered small moth nips. There are five or six modern sewing repairs to such things as larger moth holes, period wear, and a single 3” tear. The largest repair is found on the inside of the collar. Overall the majority of the stitching is complete and strong.
This is a very attractive coat and will display perfectly. [jet]
