Maker mark: [lower medallion reverse] “Schwaabs & S/ Milwaukee”. Three piece ladder & chain badge, measuring 3.75” in length, 1.75” in width. Gilt upper piece is stamped “Member”, with decorative battle flags [Confederate 3rd National, & Army of Tennessee] at each end. Middle section is stamped “Forrest / Cavalry / Corps, and painted blue. Lower silver medallion contains a portrait bust, “General N. B. Forrest”. Upper piece is missing its horizontal stick pin; middle section paint has a small .125” chipped spot on lower right edge; lower medallion is clean and near pristine.
General Robert E. Lee once remarked after the war that the best soldier he ever had was one he never met - Nathan Bedford Forrest. Superb collectible for Confederate cavalry buffs.
