Three-piece assembly, 3.5” in length, 1.5 in width”—sliver-plate bar pin, fringed silver ribbon, silver 6th Corps Cross. Bar pin & ribbon exhibit slight wear, else VG plus.
Bar pin is blank, as is the ribbon. The 1.5” Greek Cross bears the inscription “1861/ 2nd R.I.V./ 1865,” which is sharp and distinct.
The 2nd Rhode Island Volunteers were organized and mustered into service in June 1861. They were eventually attached to the 6th Corps and participated in all the major engagements of the Army of the Potomac from McClellan’s Peninsula Campaign through Gen. Lee’s surrender at Appomattox, including Sheridan’s 1864 Shenandoah Valley Campaign. During service the unit lost 120 men killed and mortally wounded and 76 by disease for a total of 196.
