White ribbon meas. approx. 2.50 x 6.75 inches with a silver ink border at top and original pin on reverse.
At top is a representation of a cavalry badge done in blue ink over text that is done in silver ink. Text reads “9TH ILLINOIS CAVALRY VETERAN ASS’N TWELFTH REUNION CHICAGO SEPTEMBER 21ST & 22ND 1897. COMMITTEE OF RECEPTION.”
Ribbon is in overall nice condition.
The 9th Illinois Cavalry was organized in November 1861. The regiment served in the Departments of Missouri and Tennessee. They were engaged in 23 skirmishes losing 7 officers and 45 enlisted men killed and died of wounds and another 241 men to disease. [ad]
