Here is a post-Civil War silk reunion ribbon from the famous Iron Brigade in the Union Army that commemorates its participation in the Civil War.
In excellent condition, the yellow-gold colored silk ribbon measures 8” long x 2¼” wide and was given out at the annual reunions the brigade held. At the upper area of the ribbon, stenciled on the face in red and black ink, are the words “REUNION, 1885 / Madison, Wis., Sept 16 & 18. / IRON BRIGADE”. Below is a large red circular ball, the symbol of the First Corps in the Army of the Potomac. The list of its six brigade commanders follows, with the infantry regiments that made up the Iron Brigade, i.e. 2nd Wisconsin, 19th Indiana, 6th Wisconsin, 24th Michigan and the 7th Wisconsin. A list of the brigade’s engagements during the Civil War follows from Gainesville to Appomattox, VA.
All stenciling is displayed within a 5½” long printed border of a banner upon the face of the gold ribbon. The reunion ribbon is clean and bright, free of tears or rips but does show normal storage folds, easily made flat. Bottom of ribbon has the normal tassel effect in good condition. Edges are not frayed or torn. Top edge has no pinback device attached. A very handsome, post Civil War military reunion ribbon keepsake in excellent condition from the hard-fought Iron Brigade.
