White porcelain canteen almost the same size as a regulation canteen. Item meas. approx. 9.00 inches from the tip of the spout to the bottom edge and approx. 8.50 inches across. The spout, spout collar and the three sling keepers are all outlined in gold paint. The bottom sling keeper is broken but parts of it remain. Very center of the canteen has a red, white and blue “U.V.L.” for Union Veterans League. These letters are super-imposed one over the other in the center of a gold-bordered shield. Along the edge of the shield is “1861-1865 THREE YEAR VOLUNTEERS” with stars. All the above decoration is in raised lettering that was cast with the canteen. Across the top, below the spout but above the central shield, is “Jason Neville” and around the edge of the canteen is “Co. F. 10th Reg. Pa. Res.-Co. I. 191st Vet. Vol.” This lettering is in gold paint. The paint for the name and the first unit designation is a little faint from wear and age. The paint gets stronger as you go along. The backside is blank. Aside from the already mentioned broken bottom sling keeper there only slight, small scattered scratches. Most of these are on the back.

Jason Neville is listed in the roster of Co. F, 39th Pennsylvania (10th Reserves) as JAMES Neville. F, 191st Pa. were he is listed as wounded at the Wilderness on May 8, 1864. He was still in the hospital when mustered out on June 28, 1865. The 191st Pa. was organized in the field with veterans from the 2nd, 5th, 6th and 10th Pa. Reserves. From the Peninsular Campaign till his wounding at the Wilderness, Neville served almost entirely with the Army of the Potomac.
