The top is cast brass and says "ADMIRAL FOOTE" across the center. This is surmounted by crossed cannons and a stack of cannonballs while below it is "NEW HAVEN 17." An anchor runs behind the design.
Suspended from the top piece is a cast brass rendition of the Connecticut State Coat of Arms with the three grapevines and then suspended from this is a nutmeg.
Reverse has original pin. Reverse also has a bar where a ribbon was draped but the ribbon is long gone. Reverse also has maker information that reads "DESIGNED AND MADE BY HALL & BRECKENRIDGE, MERIDEN, CONN."
