Top hangar is in the shape of a spread-winged eagle with the words, “ENCAMPMENT GAR SOUTH BEND 1912”. Original pin is present on reverse. Suspended from this are two small chains and a bar with, “DELEGATE”, and a G.A.R. star. Behind this is a maroon silk ribbon which attaches to a square bronze medal that has an image of a soldier, with the wording, “FIRST UNION SOLDIER FROM INDIANA KILLED 1861 / JOHN AUTEN”.
Measures 4 1/8” long. Ribbon is clean with no fraying. [sl]
