Badge is surmounted by a large spread-winged eagle over crossed cannons and artillery shells. Reverse has the original pin. Suspended from this top piece is a gold silk ribbon approx. 5.00 inches long.
The top bar has several drops. The first is of brass with crossed US flags supporting a laurel wreath with a medallion at center surrounded by the words “GOLDEN JUBILEE 50TH NATIONAL ENCAMPMENT.” At center of the medallion is a red, white and blue intertwined “GAR.” Across the bottom of the drop is bar with “REPRESENTATIVE.”
The second drop is of white metal and shows a scene of a locomotive speeding down a track with the dates “1866-1916.” Above this is a red enamel heart with silver lettering that reads “THE HEART OF AMERICA.”
The final drop is a bronze circular disc with a bust profile of Elias R. Monfort, Commander –in-Chief of the GAR. During the war Monfort served as a 2nd Lieutenant with the 75th Ohio and was wounded at Gettysburg July 1, 1863.
Ribbon has some stress separations and light surface dirt but the rest is excellent. [ad]
