UNITED CONFEDERATE VETERAN’S BADGE FOR 39TH ANNUAL REUNION 1929OF THE COMMANDER IN CHIEF

$200.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 648-27

This bronze badge has a top pinback bar in the shape of the state of North Carolina with a wreath wrapped around it and sword and musket superimposed on it. The top edge reads, “OLD NORTH STATE” in raised letters and at the bottom is, “CHARLOTTE 1929.” The ribbon is red and white. The drop is a rough arrowhead shape with oval portraits of Lee and Jackson with a Confederate battleflag set in a shield at bottom over the initials “U.C.V.” and a band across the middle reading “39th ANNUAL REUNION / JUNE 4-5-6-7, 1929.”

The United Confederate Veterans was organized in 1889 and formally dissolved in 1951. A few joint reunions were held with Union veterans of the G.A.R., but most attempts at such displays of reconciliation fell apart in the face of Union veterans’ objections to display of the Confederate flag. This is a very good example that shows just a very slight bit of fraying to the bottom left corner of the ribbon where it rubs against the slotted top bar of the drop. The maker’s name appears in raised letters on the bottom reverse. The ribbon has good color; the bronze has a nice even tone; the colors of the flag at bottom are excellent.  [sr]
