Presented here is a seldom-seen, post-Civil War period flagpole that came from a United Confederate Veteran Home in Baltimore, Maryland. Exact location of the home has been lost and is not known. The two-piece, screw together wooden shaft is in wonderful condition and is fitted with brass furniture that includes a top ball and collar, a bottom cup and a large, center brass connector. No maker markings are found on the device. When the shaft is screwed together, its total length is 112" long. The long cylindrical pole has a 1½" diameter and a center swell that tapers to 1" diameter at each end. Top of pole has a protruding screw to secure a flag point or spear point, not included. Wood shaft is painted black and retains its high gloss along with normal dings and scuff marks from age and use. No breaks or weak areas on the pole. All furniture is tight and secure to the shaft. Unusual UCV artifact.
