This brass box was one of many given to British soldiers in the trenches during the first Christmas of the war in 1914. Princess Mary organized a fund to ensure that each man serving in France at Christmas of 1914 received a small brass box containing cigarettes, tobacco or chocolate. The box is embossed with a profile of Princess Mary at center surrounded by flags and the names of all Britain’s allies as of 1914. At bottom edge of front it is stamped Christmas 1914. Box is in good condition. Box is empty. It is very rare to find one with any contents remaining.
