US WORLD WAR ONE MODEL 1917 HELMET WITH PAINTED 6TH DIVISION INSIGNIA

Standard issue American made US Model 1917 helmet with OD painted exterior and very light sand finish. Exterior shows wear from age, use and storage. There are no dents or rust spots however there are three areas where paint has been rubbed off. Mostly on the sides.

Painted on the front is a red six-pointed star for the 6th Infantry Division. Insignia is 100% intact.

Interior of helmet is complete with a good oilcloth liner and leather chinstrap. Small dot of white paint with collection number found near chinstrap keeper. Edge under liner has owner’s serial number of “217684.”

The 6th Infantry Division was made up of Regular Army units. The division saw some action in the Meuse-Argonne offensive.

Old attached tag says liner is marked “R. H. LONG.”

This helmet is from the collection of the late Bob Jones of McSherrystown, Pa. Bob was a World War Two Navy veteran who collected World War One items from his youth.  [ad]
