These relics were recovered from the crash site of a German ME 109 aircraft. The location of the wreck is not known.
This is a small group of two items from the cockpit of the aircraft. First is the cover of the cockpit radio relay. The piece meas. approx. 2.25 x 3.75 inches, is rectangular in shape and still has ¾ of the knob on the front. The cover is painted a dark OD color, almost black, and exhibits some chipping and minor dents. Reverse is plain and has the remains of the switch and part of the German nomenclature tag.
The second piece is the relay housing. It is box shaped and meas. approx. 2.58 inches x 5.25 x 2.50 inches. Again, item is painted a very dark color with wear and paint loss from exposure or maybe fire. The face has a circular and a rectangular cut. Above the circle is an icon showing which way to turn the relay to increase power or sound. The rectangular hole has “EIV” at left “AUS” at top and what looks like “NFF” at right. Bottom of box has German military parts tag but is not readable.
With the items is a page copied from a book showing the interior of an ME 109 cockpit with the pieces offered here circled to show where they were located in the plane.
Very interesting relic from one of the mainline World War Two German fighter aircraft. [ad]
