US WORLD WAR ONE MODEL 1917 HELMET WITH PAINTED 37TH DIVISION INSIGNIA

$155.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 150-251

American made US Model 1917 helmet with a very dark OD painted exterior and light sand finish. Exterior shows light wear from age, use and storage. Helmet has no dents or rust spots.

Painted on the front of the helmet is a red disc with a white border which is the 37th Division insignia. Insignia is 95% intact with some spots of surface dirt on the white border. Also scratched into the sand finish on one side is the number “151.” An old tag attached to the helmet says that the 151st Infantry was part of the 37th Division but this is not correct. The significance of the number is not known at this time.

Interior of helmet has the liner and leather chinstrap. Small dot of white paint with collection number marked on the rim edge near chinstrap. Both chinstrap keepers are present and attached to the helmet with round rivets.

The 37th Division was made up of Ohio and West Virginia National Guard units and saw action in the Ypres-Lys and Muse-Argonne operations.

This helmet is from the collection of the late Bob Jones of McSherrystown, PA. Bob was a World War Two Navy veteran who collected World War One items from his youth.  [ad]
