British made US Model 1917 helmet with an OD painted exterior and light sand finish. Exterior shows light wear from age, use and storage. Helmet has no dents or rust spots.
Painted on the front of the helmet is a blue (for Infantry) quatrefoil, formed by two Arabic numeral "8s". Insignia is 100% intact.
Interior of helmet has the liner and leather chinstrap. Crown of the helmet is missing the cloth pad which covers a leather ring which has become dry and twisted with age. Both chinstrap keepers are present and attached to the helmet with round rivets.
The 88th Division was made up of drafted men from across the US. The division arrived in France in September of 1918 and did not see action as a division although 78 men did become casualties with 12 killed and 66 wounded. [ad]
