MODEL 1903 SPRINGFIELD RIFLE MADE BY REMINGTON IN 1942

$800.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 410-181

The 1903 Springfield rifle was one of the main battle weapons of American forces in World War One and in smaller numbers through World War Two.

The bolt action rifle has an overall length of just over 43.00 inches. The small exposed section of the barrel at the muzzle retains almost all of its original bluing. Barrel is stamped behind the muzzle with “H.S.” (High Standard) over a bursting bomb which in turn is over the date “12-44.” Bore is clean with good rifling but does have scattered pitting in places.

The rear sight has the large flip-up leaf with a sliding appture operated by loosening and tightening a screw on the side of the appture. This works properly. The base of the sight also has a windage screw which also operates properly. Front sight is the usual blade on a raised base.

Just behind the sight the parkerized receiver is marked in four lines with “U.S. / REMINGTON / MODEL 1903 / 3327467.” Bolt cut off and safety work properly as does the bolt and firing pin.

Walnut stock looks to have the original finish however the wood covering the barrel is a bit darker than the rest of the stock. There are the usual dings, dents and scratches from age, use and storage. The butt has a closed crack on each side of the toe approx. 3.00 inches long. Left side of the stock has a light cartouche than can only be partially deciphered. Within the rectangle is “??-17.” Just forward of the bolt cut-off is another stamping in the wood that reads “3GM-K.” The meaning of this mark is not known but it does indicate that the stock is a World War Two era product. The stock has a “P” in a circle at bottom of the wrist with another “P” below it. Also on the underside of the stock, forward of the magazine plate, are a series of four marks in two rows. There are two circles, a rectangle and a triangle. Markings are somewhat faint.

Weapon has both sling swivels and a stacking swivel under the bayonet stud.  [ad]
