These hangers were used to attach the Luftwaffe sword to a waist belt. They are hard to find and this one is in very fine condition.
The two main parts of the hanger are made of brown leather with a dyed blue strip, also made of leather, sewn to the top surface, thus giving the item a blue face and a brown underside. The upper and lower sections are connected by a white metal ring. The upper section is for anchoring a support strap while the larger lower section mounts a flat white metal snap hook on the front for attaching the sword. The back of the lower portion has an adjustable loop for mounting to a belt.
Stamped into the back of the lower section is “SACHS & DEISSELBERG / HAMBURG / 1937.” Stamped below this is the Luftwaffe proof mark of “L.B.A.” for “Luftwaffe Bekleidungsamt” or “Air Force Clothing Office.” Markings are excellent.
Leather has some very light scattered surface creases from age and storage otherwise the item is very clean and in excellent shape. [ad]
