Designed as a robust knife suitable for fighting and more mundane utility tasks, the Ka-Bar was adopted in late 1942 by the US Marine Corps and the Navy followed suit soon after, using it to replace the USN Mark 1 knife and designating it the Mark 2. This one is marked on the underside of the guard at top “USN” and at bottom “KA-BAR,” which had become the generic term for the pattern.
The stacked leather grip on this one is good. The pommel shows gray with dark gray spotting. The guard and blade show a bit lighter from old cleanings, with some gray spots, but the edge and clip point are good. There is a little bit of freckling to the underside of the guard and no scabbard, but it is a good example of the classic WW2 American knife. [sr]
