The bayonet itself is in excellent condition. The blade is 10.00 inches long and retains 90% of its original blue. The area of the point is semi-bright from the blade being drawn and replaced numerous times over the years. The blade shows some minor signs of sharpening near the point and there is a nick in this area. One side of the ricasso is marked “6460” overt the letter “a” and the opposite side is marked “J. Sch” for makers Jetter & Scherrer. Spine is stamped with the date “41.”
Bakelite grip is in good condition and the metal pommel and guard have a light patina.
Scabbard bears the number “4877” over the letter “a.” Number does not match the bayonet. Back of the scabbard is marked “42ddl” which shows the scabbard was made by Josua Corts und Sohn in 1942. Scabbard body has dark oxidation throughout along some minor wear spots and light surface rust.
There are no visible Waffen amts visible on the bayonet or scabbard.
Black leather frog is solid and complete but does show signs of use. No markings are visible.
This is a good example of the WW2 German K-98 bayonet. [ad]
