By Charles M. Walker. Published by the Indianapolis Journal, Indianapolis, IN., 1878. 191 pp., frontispiece. Reddish pictorially stamped glazed cloth, 7 x 4.75”, with black & gilt cover and spine lettering. Exhibits moderate wear & rubbing at extremities. Else VG, with tight spine and page signatures.

Oliver P. Morton was a two term Republican Governor of Indiana during the Civil War, 1861-67. As such, and as a friend of Lincoln and the Lincoln administration, he managed to neutralize the Democratic controlled legislature of his time and provide consistent to the Union cause, and was much loved by Indiana Union soldiery. After his gubernatorial service he was elected to the U.S. Senate, and died while serving there, in 1877. Fine eulogy to Morton, by one of his state’s leading newspapers. Solid Indiana Civil War collectible.  [jp] [ph:L]
