Title page reads “HISTORY OF THE FORTY-FOURTH REGIMENT NEW YORK VOLUNTEER INFANTRY IN THE CIVIL WAR 1861-1865” by Captain Eugene Arus Nash and published by Morningside Bookshop of Dayton, Ohio in 1988.

Hardcover is nicely bound in dark blue cloth with the title in gold on the spine. Front cover is also decorated with full color renditions of the US National and the regimental flags. Covers are excellent and in like new condition.

Volume meas. approx. 6.00 x 9.00 inches and runs approx. 484 pages with index.

Binding is excellent and the interior is also like new. Text has 69 black and white photographs of members of the regiment.

The 44th New York was mustered into service on August 30, 1861. The regiment was part of the 1st Division of the 5th Corps at Gettysburg where they served under brigade commander Strong Vincent. With the rest of Vincent’s Brigade they defended Little Round Top on the afternoon of July 2, 1863. The regiment was also involved in action on the Peninsula, 2nd Bull Run, South Mountain, Antietam, Fredericksburg Chancellorsville, Gettysburg as stated above and throughout Grant’s Overland Campaign of 1864-65.  [AD] [PH:L]
