This is the Model 1855 socket bayonet for Springfield rifle muskets. Measures approximately 21” overall. This specimen features a bright surface overall with scattered gray “speckles” over the blade. Complete with locking ring and screw. Large “US” clearly stamped on blade flat with small “S” under. In very good condition.
Original black bridle leather scabbard with buff leather frog. The body is in good condition with just a few small scuffs. The seam running up the back shows minor separation of stitching in small areas. Brass scabbard tip attached with four tacks. Arched buff leather frog is in very good condition. The frog is seven rivet style and is sewn and riveted to the scabbard. Frog has oval marker’s or inspector’s stamp but is unreadable due to the texture of the buff leather.
A nice set. [jet] [ph:L]
