The drawn curved blade meas. approx. 34.00 inches long. The blade has a wonderful blued surface over three-quarters of its length with decorations done in a gold wash. The blued surface is 98% complete with only some minor thinning in areas. The gold wash is strong. The obverse is decorated with a panoply of arms, foliate and a spread-winged eagle with riband. The reverse has a laurel leaf with crossed spears, patriotic shield and drums and foliate. The lower section of the blade is bright with light mottling and scattered light surface pitting. The blade edge has several nicks.

The hilt is in excellent condition. The leather covering the grip is perfect and the wrap is twisted wire flanked by plain wire. It is tight and complete. Grip has an iron ferrule at the bottom with an iron backstrap that leads to a rounded pommel. The knucklebow is of iron and is “D” shaped. The bottom forms the guard which ends in a round quillon. The guard has iron “ears” on both side. Top of the knucklebow has a slit for attaching a sword knot. The iron and brass all have a wonderful untouched look.

The iron scabbard has two minor shallow dings, one on each side. One side of the scabbard has a pleasing dark patina while the other is semi-bright but darkening in most areas like the opposite side. Both rings and mounts are present.

This is a great early American sword that would fit in well with any collection.  [ad]
