Gallager carbines saw extensive use during the Civil War.

The 22 ¼” round barrel has flip up rear sight and heavy blade front sight. Surface is smooth with scattered mottling and retains some traces of original color. Lever action operates well as does hammer / trigger mechanics. Bore is clear with some pitting overall and good rifling. Lock is boldly stamped “MANUFACT’D BY / RICHARDSON & OVERMAN / PHILADA.” with serial number 11025 behind hammer. Rear edge of lock is marked “GALLAGER’S PATENT / JULY 17th, 1860.” Sling bar and ring are on left side.

Wood is walnut and in very good condition with beautiful deep color. No cartouches. Light saddle wear shows actual use. Iron butt plate and patchbox.

This is a nice example of a Gallager carbine.  [jet] [ph:L]
