YORK COUNTY PENNSYLVANIA POWDER HORN

$495.00 ON HOLD

Quantity Available: 1

Item Code: 490-4338

This horn likely dates to roughly 1750 to 1825 or so, and follows a classic York County style with a domed wood base plug with turned grooves. It features two fine lines turned around the base of the horn itself. The upper portion of the wood base plug, at the horn, is turned with two grooves. Then the bottom of the base is turned with a series of grooves creating a bullseye effect with a chip-carved band that imitates a lightly twisted ribbon. An iron strap staple rests in a circular recess at the center.

At the opposite end, the horn features both deep and finely turned grooves tapering to the spout. A finely turned wood plug with a long spring wire fits in the end. A second iron strap staple is located about 1.5" below the spout.

A shoulder length reproduction leather strap is attached to the two staples.

The condition and color of the wood and the horn is very good. This is a very attractive, classic American powder horn.  [jet]  [ph:L]
